Wuthering Depths

Wow! That’s some storm out there.  It’s always a little disconcerting to be in a house buffeted by wind and hammered by rain; you worry about trees and tiles and windows and cars: but I can’t help thinking we are extraordinarily fortunate to have moved here, a couple of miles uphill from the river. Not that we were in any danger where we were, the river/canal being in a dip and our house being at the top of a slope, but it feels a lot safer here.  I can’t begin to imagine what it’s like to be flooded out: it doesn’t bear thinking about. Let alone all the farmers who are losing livestock or crops.  Winds are at danger level in Wales and the West Country – and yet still there are people in denial about climate-change.  Just this morning someone on Facebook tried to convince me that ‘scientists’ no longer believe in it.  News to me.…

Stay safe, everyone
