It’s a small gesture but this blog stands in solidarity with Charlie Hebdo which was yesterday the scene of a dreadful attack on its staff:
The attack was supposedly revenge for a cartoon poking fun at the prophet Muhammad. There are a lot of complicated issues about these cartoons which need discussion, such as whether it’s OK to be so offensive about other people’s faith – but right now there’s only one thing to say and that is this: we must defend free speech and stand together to oppose all those who try to intimidate us, no matter who they are. I’m really not sure if I would have the courage to carry on if I’d received credible death-threats but I hope I would, because the alternative is to let intimidation win.
