Is There Life in Loughborough?

On the face of it, Loogabarooga is not a place I’d have chosen to live.  But since I’m here – for a few weeks at least – I plan on making the best of it.  So true to form I look around for groups I can join and for interesting activities.  There are one or two good walks but the canal is not easily accessible and to reach anywhere picturesque you need to get out of the town; something which, in my current state of recovering-from-moving-and-hypo-thyroidism, is not achievable.  Anyway, I’ve been getting to know the town – and last night we got to know the Swan in the Rushes a little more.

This seems to be a thoroughly worthy pub, serving around six real ales (the Harvest Pale I had was excellent) with no TV or fruit machines and several rooms for good socialisation.  We were there to meet some Friday people who were re-starting their ‘Friday room’ discussion group.  It was good to meet like-minded people: TFR is a ‘progressive’ discussion group and the idea was to come up with topics for future debate.  I found myself volunteering to introduce the next one, on ‘A Very British Coup? – what obstacles would Jeremy Corbyn face as a future PM?’

Ideas are flowing already for that one.

In the meantime I am back in Leicester this weekend for Tomatoes breakfast followed by some Quaker events.
